UFO disclosure in Brazil: More top-secret files released by government

The Brazilian Government has just declassified a new set of significant previously secret UFO documents, now covering the 80s. We already had disclosures covering the 50s, 60s and 70s, all with very important documents and information. So far over 4,000 pages have been disclosed.

The recent disclosure is particularly powerful because it contains dozens of reports of UFOs on May 19, 1986, considered the “Official UFO Night in Brazil”, when 21 spherical objects, estimated 100 meters in diameter – according to military sources – were detected by radars and spotted by civilian pilots, and literally jammed air traffic over the major Brazilian Airports, such as Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Then, several Mirage and F5 jets were scrambled to pursue them.

As a result of that “invasion”, the Air Force minister brigadier Octavio Moreira Lima went public about it the other morning on the national TV network, declaring all facts openly. The pilots who took part in the pursue and their commanders also spoke freely about the pursuits, which occurred over several hours.

We've had several other disclosures since 2007, all as a direct result of the campaign UFOs: Freedom Of Information Now, promoted since 2004 by the Brazilian Committee of UFO Researchers. The latest disclosure comprises over 2,200 new pages of formerly secret UFO documents that were given to the Committee and also sent to the Brazilian National Archives.
In late July, hundreds of papers from the Brazilian Air Force's official System for the Investigation of Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon (SIOANI) have demonstrated how the nation's military authorities dealt with the UFO Phenomena in the 60s and 70s.

Considering that SIOANI wasn't a top secret agency and that even civilian researchers took part in its procedures, the structure and functionality of which proves that Brazil is the first country in the world to officially and publicly admit the reality of the UFO Phenomena, and the first to investigate it openly.

These are only a few links to recently discovered colored drawings of UFOs seen in Brazil and investigated in the 60s and 70s by the Brazilian Air Force's official System for the Investigation of Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon (SIOANI). Much more is about to be disclosed.

The Brazilian UFO Magazine website – www.ufo.com.br – already has thousands of pages for download, such as over 1,200 pages of documents, 200 photos of SIOANI's activities and Operation Saucer, carried out in the Amazonian region in 1977. Along with documents received by the Committee from other military sources.

WASHINGTON – The story of humankind is reaching back another million years as scientists learn more about "Ardi," a hominid who lived 4.4 million years ago in what is now Ethiopia. The 110-pound, 4-foot female roamed forests a million years before the famous Lucy, long studied as the earliest skeleton of a human ancestor.

This older skeleton reverses the common wisdom of human evolution, said anthropologist C. Owen Lovejoy of Kent State University.

Rather than humans evolving from an ancient chimp-like creature, the new find provides evidence that chimps and humans evolved from some long-ago common ancestor — but each evolved and changed separately along the way.

"This is not that common ancestor, but it's the closest we have ever been able to come," said Tim White, director of the Human Evolution Research Center at the University of California, Berkeley.

The lines that evolved into modern humans and living apes probably shared an ancestor 6 million to 7 million years ago, White said in a telephone interview.

Roman Emperor Nero's legendary rotating dining room uncovered by archaeologists

Archaeologists have uncovered what they believe to be the Roman emperor Nero's fabled rotating dining room.

The 'coenatio rotunda', which was discovered in the remains of the first century Golden Palace on Rome's Palatine Hill, is thought to be the one described by the Roman historian Suetonius in Lives of the Caesars.

He wrote: 'The chief banqueting room was circular, and revolved perpetually night and day in imitation of the motion of the celestial bodies.'

It is in these luxurious surroundings that Nero, surrounded by fawning admirers, would have indulged in sexual depravity and held banquets which lasted 'from noon till midnight'.

Cosmic Rays Hit Space Age High

September 29, 2009: Planning a trip to Mars? Take plenty of shielding. According to sensors on NASA's ACE (Advanced Composition Explorer) spacecraft, galactic cosmic rays have just hit a Space Age high.

"In 2009, cosmic ray intensities have increased 19% beyond anything we've seen in the past 50 years," says Richard Mewaldt of Caltech. "The increase is significant, and it could mean we need to re-think how much radiation shielding astronauts take with them on deep-space missions."

The cause of the surge is solar minimum, a deep lull in solar activity that began around 2007 and continues today. Researchers have long known that cosmic rays go up when solar activity goes down. Right now solar activity is as weak as it has been in modern times, setting the stage for what Mewaldt calls "a perfect storm of cosmic rays

China finds bird-like dinosaur with four wings

HONG KONG (Reuters) – Chinese researchers have unearthed the fossil of a bird-like dinosaur with four wings in northeastern China, which they suggest is a missing link in dinosaurs' evolution into birds.

In a paper in the journal Nature, they said they found the well-preserved fossil of the "Anchiornis huxleyi," which roamed the earth some 160 million years ago, in a geological formation in China's northeastern Liaoning province.

About the size of a chicken, the fossil has a total body length of less than 50cm (20 inches) and a skull about 6cm long, lead researcher Xing Xu at the Chinese Academy of Science in Beijing told Reuters in an email.

"This finding suggests that birds are likely to be descended from a kind of small-sized four-winged dinosaur about 160 million years ago," Xu said.

"It is a link between more typical theropods (dinosaurs which moved around with two rear limbs) and birds. It lived around a time period ... that we expected for birds' ancestor."

In a statement, the researchers said: "Long feathers cover the arms and tail, but also the feet, suggesting that a four-winged stage may have existed in the transition to birds."

The transition from dinosaurs to birds is still poorly understood because of the lack of well-preserved fossils, and many scientists say bird-like dinosaurs appear too late in the fossil record to be the true ancestors of birds.

The Chinese researchers believe the fossil is the oldest bird-like dinosaur reported so far, and older than Archaeopteryx, the earliest known bird.

"The presence of such a species at this time in the fossil record effectively disputes the argument that bird-like dinosaurs appeared too late to be the ancestors of birds," they wrote.

The harvest moon is the moon at and about the period of fullness that is nearest to the autumnal equinox. The Harvest moon is often mistaken for the modern day Hunter's moon. In the legend of the Harvest moon, it is said that all full moons have their own special characteristics based primarily on the whereabouts of the ecliptic in the sky at the time of year that these moons are visible. The full moons of September, October and November as seen from the northern hemisphere - which correspond to the full moons of March, April and May as seen from the southern hemisphere - are well known in the folklore of the sky. All full moons rise around the time of sunset. However, although in general the moon rises about 50 minutes later each day, as it moves in orbit around Earth, the Harvest Moon and Hunter's Moon are special, because around the time of these full moons, the time difference between moonrise on successive evenings is shorter than usual. In other words, the moon rises approximately 30 minutes later, from one night to the next, as seen from about 40 degrees N. or S. latitude, for several evenings around the full Hunter's or Harvest Moons. Thus there is no long period of darkness between sunset and moonrise around the time following these full moons. In times past this feature of these autumn moons was said to help farmers working to bring in their crops (or, in the case of the Hunter's Moon, hunters tracking their prey). They could continue being productive by moonlight even after the sun had set. Hence the name Harvest Moon.

Olivia Newton-John has seen a UFO.

The 'Grease' actress claims she spotted a flying silver object which blazed across the sky at "amazing speeds" when she was a teenager.

Olivia is convinced most British people share her belief in the existence of alien life.

Describing her otherworldly encounter, the 60-year-old actress told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "I have seen one when I was very young. It was unidentified and it was flying.

"It's true that I'm intrigued by them. I have seen so many shifts in belief systems over the years.

"In England most people now think UFOs are possible. Twenty years ago, how many people would have thought that?"

Olivia is not the only celebrity to have encountered UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects).

Singer Robbie Williams is an extra-terrestrial fanatic and claims to have had no less than three encounters with alien life.

Robbie, 35, first saw a "square thing" pass 300 ft above his head as he was sunbathing in California. The second occurred as he played a song he wrote about alien contact.

Robbie also claims he saw a "big strip of black light" appear when he was in a recording studio.

UFO Attacks On Humans Reported Worldwide

allnewsweb.com - Few westerners would have heard of the curious case of Mrs Zhu, of Siping City in China. In April, 2007 she was out walking at night with her son’s girlfriend, Ms Hui, after dinner. The two were planning on doing some late-night shopping. According to the account the two women later gave their shopping plans were thwarted by a UFO in attack mode.

‘I am an elderly lady and have no reason to lie’ noted Mrs Zhu, a high-school teacher.

‘As we were walking a glowing, red, egg-shaped object or UFO appeared in front of us. The object was emitting what appeared to be red lasers. The lasers were shooting out to a distance of 20cm and were about five centimetres in thickness. We tried to move away from the object and suddenly three beams shot out and hit both of us around the collar-bone. The women were about a meter away from the unexplainable object.

A few seconds later the UFO vanished.

When Mrs Zhu went home she felt some pain around her neck and then noticed a deep scar ten centimetres long in the area the laser struck her. It was as if a sharp instrument had cut her skin in a precise manner.

A number of government scientists who have examined the case insist that Mrs Zhu must have hurt herself prior to allegedly seeing the orb and having forgotten how the injury occurred associated it with the alleged object. It was, however, confirmed that lasers can create the injuries reported.

The women noted that there was a loud noise when the attack occurred and a baffled Mrs Chu comments that ‘I know that I did not injure myself otherwise, it happened then.’

When UFOs attack and injure people this sort of confusion almost always follows.
In India a significant series of events that appear almost identical in many ways to the above account were reported in 2002 by Associated Press.

Numerous villagers in the state of Uttar Pradesh claimed that soccer ball sized, red and blue, glowing spheres were attacking them while lying in bed. The spheres also emitted lasers that pierced their bodies. 7 people died of injuries sustained and numerous others were badly hurt and left with scars.

Police accused the villagers of mass hysteria and hallucination. The villagers in turn accused the police of failing to ‘catch the aliens’ and protect them. The situation became so severe that a 10,000 strong protest and riot occurred in the worst affected area, Mirzapur. One rioter was even killed by police. Village Protection squads were formed and people stopped sleeping outdoors.

Later the attacks were blamed on insects after one villager found a previously unidentified bug in the area. Needless to say, victims are anything but convinced by that explanation.

The area’s district Magistrate at the time, Amrit Amhijat claimed to have filmed one of the UFOs but this footage has never been publically released.

In Brazil, in the mid 1970s, numerous villagers in Brazil’s Amazon district complained of pretty much the exact same thing. Spheres and glowing balls of light were attacking them with lasers causing injury and death.

A top-secret investigation by Brazil’s military, ‘Operation Saucer’ or 'Operacao Prato' in Portuguese, was launched. For years rumours and leaks of this investigation were met with outright denial by the authorities. One person who spilled the beans on the operation was its head, Colonel Uyrange Hollanda.

Colonel Hollanda gave fairly detailed information to prominent local UFO researchers ,including A.J Gevaerd, on the over 2000 witnesses interviewed, the numerous photos, and actual UFO events witnessed by investigating army personnel. In one such event divulged, a number of military personnel, witness no less than a humanoid alien being beamed down from a cylindrical extraterrestrial craft to simply stare at them.

Shortly after telling his story Colonel Uyrange Hollanda was found dead, having apparently committed suicide. The blanket denial of ‘Operation Saucer’ went on until last year when the Brazilian military and government disclosed and released their UFO files, thanks largely to the work of A.J Gevaerd. Indeed pages and pages of detailed files, including photos and illustrations, on Operation Saucer came to light.

To digress, the case of A.J Gevaerd is a clear rebuttal of the notion that ufologists are a bunch of delusional tin-foil hatters. After years of claiming files existed that the government of a significant nation claimed didn't, Mr Gevaerd not only got hold of the very substantial files: Brazil's air force chiefs actually conceded that they wouldn't mind his help on this topic that had left them so perplexed!

These three examples of UFOs attacking human beings took place in very different parts of the world, yet all share very common features. The evidence for the above events taking place is very compelling and hard to explain away. Yet sadly, in most cases the victims were left without any real answers.

Were these objects UFO craft deliberately hurting humans? Were they actual life forms from another dimension attempting to communicate? Colonel Hollanda believed they were simply extraterrestrial probes innocently collecting information and not intending to do harm.

The Doctor the Ghost and the Psychic

Sometimes knowing the people I do in my line of interests brings together situations that I could never imagine. This is one of those scenarios

I have a long time friend who is a doctor in Canada. She is a bright happy full of life woman who is always interesting to talk to and fun to be around. I think highly of her and know her to be a hard working trustful person of strong character.

She is unusual as she is not only a person of science but walks a path of strong spiritual beliefs and has an open mind to all things unknown. She has had events that are unexplainable in her own life and keeps an open mind when it comes to the world of the paranormal.

Last March I called my friend. She had moved and I had not spoken to her for a while and wanted to catch up on what was going on in her life and share what was happening in mine. We were at the end of our conversation when she said “ Oh let me tell you about the ghost in my new condo.” She was so matter of fact at first I thought she was joking.

She bought a new condo during Christmas time that just so happened to be about a two-block walk from the cemetery where her mother was buried. She would often walk over and place flowers or items that reminded her of her mom on her mother’s grave.

She told me that shortly after moving into her new condo she started to see a fleeting image of a man in her home. This shadow type image of a man would appear when she was busy doing something in her kitchen or sitting reading or watching TV. She would catch a glimpse of a tall thin man dressed in black cross a doorway or standing by her kitchen window. As she told me about this I felt uneasy and nervous however my friend was calm and matter of fact about seeing this image of a man that she talked as if it were a natural everyday occurrence. I asked her if she could have someone come in and cleanse her new home as the image could have been attached to the previous owners. I knew not to dismiss her sighting, as I know her well enough to know she would not mention it unless it was happening- often. She told me she would think about it and changed the subject to other things as we ended our call.

That phone call did not sit well with me. I could not stop thinking about her in that new condo with some ‘thing’ in there with her. I waited about ten days and called her again.

I did not waste any time in small talk and got right back to the ghost in her house. She told me that he was still there and that he now comes to her bedside at night and whispers her name in her ear. She could see his image which was a young man dark haired with a heavy Irish accent. I immediately started to panic. I wanted her to have someone come stay with her and to bring in people who could remove this spirit from her home. I had an extremely uneasy feel about the entire thing and really felt pushed to get her to take action to remove this spirit from her new home and life.

She told me she thinks she may have picked him up on one of her visits to the cemetery where her mother is buried. She said she realized it started after her last visit to place flowers at her mom’s grave.

The more we discussed this the more I sensed that my friend was far more concerned about this happening then she was letting on. She promised me she would not try to have a friend stay with her until this issue of the uninvited ghost was resolved. She also was going to try to contact a professional ghost hunter.

My friend was able to get her sister to come and stay with her for a while which added credence to this story as she too saw the ghost and also described him as a young man with dark hair dressed in black. She too heard his whispers and she too reported an Irish accent.

I wanted my friend to move out of the condo until this mans spirit could be removed from the house as his visits were becoming more frequent and his vision and words clearer as the days went by. I was terrified his energy was increasing and truly nervous for my friend’s safety. Both my friend and her sister were cautious but truly brave and stayed their ground unwilling to be chased from her new home. They were fearful of the ghost but not as much as I was. There seemed to be calmness about them concerning this haunting that I could not understand.

I know many unusual people due to the subjects I write about and decided to call one of my contacts and friends who is a strong psychic and medium. This woman was had strong beliefs about her abilities and would only use her gifts when she felt people were in trouble or when the messages were very strong. If she were unsure or uncomfortable she would refuse to use her abilities. I did not know what she would do but decided to set up a visit with her so I could tell her what my doctor friend was going through. I was hopeful she might have some advice.

I invited the psychic to lunch so we could sit and chat for a while. I took her to a favorite seafood place near my house. We no sooner sat down and ordered when my psychic friend looked at me and said “ So you are having a ghost problem huh?” I would say I was stunned but knowing this woman I knew she was picking up my strong concerns.

I told her most of what was happening to my pal in Canada when she stopped me dead sentence and said-“ She picked him up at the graveyard because she was doing something Irish in the cemetery. He was drawn to her as she represented home and followed her back to her condo.” She then went on to say that she could clearly see him and that he was a young Irishmen who died suddenly and did not want to face the fact he was dead. He wanted to return home to Ireland. She told me I was to go home immediately and tell my friend to call him by his name -Matthew, and tell him he had to go with her now and that she was to talk to him non stop as she walked him back to the graveyard. She told me to tell my friend she had to do this, as it was not safe to keep him in her home. She also instructed me to have my friend talk with him the entire way explaining to him that he needed to cross over and if he would follow the light to the other side he would then be able to find his way home to his beloved Ireland and family. The psychic told me he had been wandering that graveyard for years until he saw my friend do that “Irish thing”.

The psychic told me it was important I try to get my friend to listen to me and do this or things could become- complicated and dangerous. I had no idea if my friend would listen to any of this but decided to go home to call her and try to get her to at least listen to my psychic friends warnings and advice.

I called my friend in Canada and told her word for word what the psychic had told me. I did not know what reaction to anticipate as I was interfering and was afraid she would be angry.

My friend did not say one word while I spoke which was making me very uncomfortable and nervous I had over stepped my boundaries. I finally finished all that the psychic had told me and listened as only silence greeted me on the other end of the phone. I started to regret calling when finally my doctor friend spoke. “ I did a Irish Jig in the graveyard on St Patrick’s day for my mom.” Of course I replied with a “You did what?” She then told me that she went to the graveyard on St Patrick’s Day and brought green carnations and a big four-leaf clover that she set up around her mother’s headstone. She said she then talked to her mother as was her way and ended the visit by doing a wild Irish Jig right there in the graveyard as she had done for her mom every year on St Patties day.

She told me that the haunting started almost at once after that last visit. She also was stunned the psychic picked up that she had done that in the cemetery.

My friend agreed to do exactly as the psychic suggested. Along with her sister they immediately began to speak to the ghost using his name. They both told him over and over that he had passed over and had to cross over to the light to find his way home to the land and family he loved. The next morning the two sisters started breakfast talking to Matthew and talked non-stop about his need to cross over to find his way. They also told him he had to go with them and walked back to the graveyard talking all the way to the ghost they hoped was walking with them.

They walked him back to the middle of the cemetery where they told him one last time it was now the time for him to follow the light and cross over to where he wanted and needed to be. They talked of Ireland and his relatives who would surely be waiting for him on the other side. They told him he would be able to see his homeland and family once he walked over to where he needed to be. They talked and talked until they felt he was gone. They told Matthew he could not come home with them again and they left the cemetery and ran back to my friend’s condo.

It has been six months and so far Matthew has not returned and all the ghostly events have ended in my friend’s house. I recently talked to the psychic who told me the poor lad had found his way and was busy back in the green of his homeland. She had no doubts he would not return. The doctor is back to her normal self and her sister has long moved back to her own home.

I found the entire situation a walk into the unknown that will for me be another event that makes me shake my head in wonder how very much we just do not understand.

I have learned to listen with a open mind to those who have events I can not understand and also promised myself to never do a Irish Jig in a cemetery – ever.

update : Ontario 'morphing' UFO photographed at close range

An Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, man witnessed and took photographs September 17, 2009, of a low flying UFO overhead in Scarborough, according to a statement released by Paul Shishis.

The photographed object does not fit standard UFO descriptions of disc and triangle-shaped objects, but appeared to "morph" in shape, according to Shishis.

He said the object was 100 yards away and between 300 and 500 feet in altitude, when it appeared to "open up," and then "looked like a long sheet of some material - that was approximately 10 to 15 feet in length."

Following is the unedited statement Shishis released September 25, 2009 as a letter to "John Bro."

Hi John, I'm in shock once again man. I 'm real busy at work //-home -bummer - considering all that is happening !

Now here we go again! 3 sightings today. I can tell you - something is definately happening around me and yesterday - there were more military-looking helicopters - apparently following me as I drove home .

This morning - I was up earlier than usual - 5:20AM. I made some tea -was half asleep - and at 5:30am, I went outside to my deck . Here's the scary part, John. I thought in my mind-"show me a sign -if you're watching me."

Within seconds - above where I was looking - I witnessed- one white flash - then paused for 2-3 seconds, more rapid white flashes. Then paused another 2-3 seconds - and witnessed another single white flash.

I was in shock - I silently made a request - and then it happened, eh?? I watched in amazement - hoping for any other flashes - or signs of running lights.

Later I was at work in Scarborough - and I stepped outside - just before 1:00pm. I looked up - and saw a strange large, black object - heading directly towards me. I then pulled my camera from my pocket and start filming.

Immediately, I was able to record the apparently morphing object - as it was approaching from the east. It was only about 100 yards away - at a height of between 300-500 ft. I was hoping for a witness - and then 3 miraculously just showed up!

Then the object appeared to 'open-up' - and it looked like a long sheet of some material - that was approximately 10 to 15 feet in length. I will send all of the photos of this bizarre thing - and you can decide for yourself. I then got into my car and went driving off in the direction that it was traveling; -north / northeast. I proceeded to drive through a maze of industrial streets - and saw nothing.

After a few minutes - I decided to head back for lunch. Immediately, I was startled to see that - approximately 500 yds away - there it was again. I then saw a brilliant, white object - hovering to the north of me. This one appeared to be about a quater- mile away - and maybe a half mile in altitude. I have tried to photograph the white stationary ones in the past - but they never seem to show up in my photos. I have seen what looks like a red light or "aura" around others - and haven't been able to image them. But today I was able to. Maybe it was due to the closeness / proximity - but I got much better detail in the pictures-you be the judge.

She claims seeing "a blue light that lit the entire sky toward the east" and further explained that it is not the first time she has had experiences of this nature.

In statements made to LT14 Radio, Ingrid explained that she purchased a photo camera not so long ago and in order to try it out, began taking photos of her pets, relatives, etc. One night she left her home and saw "a blue light that lit the
sky toward the east." She said that she immediately pressed the shutter and saw "a strange object" captured her screen. Later on, due to her astonishment, she showed the object to her sister, who opined that "it might be a UFO."

An amateur astronomer has captured pictures that appear to show a UFO hovering over Devon.

Lee Betts, 29, spotted the glowing red shape hovering 1,000ft up in the night sky from his bedroom window.

The object moved across the sky for more than an hour on Monday evening before shooting off into the distance.

Mr Betts, of Newton St Cyres near Exeter, said he watched the unidentified object through a telescope before taking the pictures at 9pm.

He said: ''I couldn't believe it at first. The shape was about 100ft long and there were four lights coming from it initially.

''The shape moved slowly and it seemed to pivot on a central axis. Then, without warning, a sudden flash of light like a shooting star went across the sky.

''It was very strange. I have been an amateur astronomer for the past three years and I've never seen anything like it before. It's unexplained.''

A police spokesman said they had not received any reports of a UFO sighting in Devon.

Iran downs strange bright craft over Persian Gulf

A satellite image of Iran's Khark and Khargou Islands in Persian Gulf were the bright objects were reportedly sighted by the IRGC

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has targeted and downed an unidentified shining object after sighting it over Persian Gulf waters.

"Glowing objects were sighted over the Persian Gulf. IRGC air defense targeted one of the objects successfully, forcing it to plummet and sink in the seas off Boushehr (Province)," said top regional commander, Brigadier Ali Razmjou.

"The three bright objects were detected by our radars when flying over the Persian Gulf Islands of Khark and Khargou," he added, according to a Monday report posted on IRNA.

Brig. Razmjou explained that when the radars indicated that they were not Iranian aircrafts, the IRGC fired at the three objects. He also added that the fallen objects' remains have not been found yet.

The exact time and location of the sighting and downing of the weird aircraft has not been announced.

Early Humans Had Nutcracker Jaws

Our ancient human relatives had jaws like nutcrackers that allowed the hominids to chomp down on hard nuts and seeds and adapt to changes in food sources in their environment, a new computer simulation reveals.

Today's humans have comparatively small faces and teeth, making us ill-equipped to bite down forcefully on hard objects. Apparently that wasn't the case for Australopithecus africanus, which lived 3.3 million to 2.5 million years ago.

An international team of researchers used computed tomography scanning to digitally recreate an A. africanus skull to see how the jaw operated and what forces it could produce. Then, they added measurements of how the facial muscles work in chimpanzees, which share common features with Australopithecus.

MUFON witness report - 9/19/09: I was participating with friends in a Nightsky Photography workshop at Acadia National Park. There were 15 adults: 12 participants, 2 park service employees to drive van and assist, plus Tyler Nordgren, PhD astronomer and artist, teaching the workshop. After an introduction and instructions, we all set up our cameras on the edge of Eagle Lake, most of us aiming southwest hoping to capture the Milky Way as the evening progressed. (The workshop was scheduled from 6:30-9:00pm ET.)

At approximately 7:50pm ET, we all observed a bright object that appeared suddenly directly in front of us. It seemed to come down in the sky, burn brightly creating a cone of light shining towards the ground much like a streetlight and fog-like light around it. the "streetlight" did not make it the ground. After a few seconds, the object disappeared. The fog and "streetlight" slowly disappeared after about 45 seconds. It just seemed to fade from the cone shape to a smudge in the sky.

AS if bushfires, drought and floods aren't enough, Australians have now been warned to watch out for volcanoes.

A scientist has warned an eruption is "well overdue" and says there are hundreds of volcanoes that could cause trouble, from South Australia and Victoria through to Queensland.

But it doesn't seem too urgent - an eruption is already 3000 years overdue.

Melbourne geologist Bernie Joyce wants "eruption response plans" drawn up. He says there are 400 volcanoes in Victoria and South Australia, and almost as many in Queensland.

"A significant eruption seems well overdue," said Prof Joyce, who has been associated with the University of Melbourne.

"These geo-hazards are real and they must be given much more focus by emergency management authorities.

"We can't say with 100 per cent certainty that a significant volcano will strike tomorrow, next week, next year, or even 100 years down the track."

Prof Joyce takes a long-term view, as geologists tend to do. He says there has been a volcanic eruption about every 2000 years in Australia, but the last one was 5000 years ago.

Prof Joyce will on Thursday be awarded the Geological Society of Australia (Victoria Division)'s Selwyn Medal.

H-Shaped UFO Snapped over Mt. Vernon, NY

(Editor's Note: We have had about 25 emails from readers telling us this object is an H-shaped mylar balloon.)

I shot about 60 frames of a craft in Mount Vernon, NY, between 30 & 60,000 feet up. It was a clear blue sky. Object appeared to be spinning and changing positions.

When I enlarged the pictures, you could clearly see the object, two tubes connected together by a tube in the middle forming a letter 'H' so I decided to look for similar sighting on the Internet, and I found it quite an amazing object so here it is.

This was no airplane, I never saw anything quite like it. It was box-shaped, long and tapered on the front, and there was another one, right beside it. Between the two box-shaped craft, there was a tunnel like the letter "H".

I would say that the altitude of this thing was no more than two hundred feet high, and only about 300 feet north of where I stood, slowly moving in an easterly direction. The mid section of this fuselage had these ribbons like things hanging down from it.

I had my 4 year old son with me and I started getting a bit nervous, as I was not sure what I was seeing and I feared for his safety. I told him to stay seated, and after watching this thing for about 40 seconds to perhaps a minute at the longest, it disappeared out of site blocked out by the tree line.

UFO sightings over Britain more than triple this year

Beware the little green men – the number of unidentified flying object (UFO) sightings has more than tripled this year, Ministry of Defense documents reveal.

The so-called "X Files" show that there have been 394 claims reported to the MoD's UFO desk from January until the end of last month, making it by far the "busiest" year on record.

Last year, there were only 118 sightings over the same period. The previous highest number was in 1997 – the first for which figures are available – when there were 331 reports over the same period.

Experts say Britain is experiencing a "flap" – the term Ufologists use to describe a concentrated period of sightings.

Many of the reports are of UFOs spotted at nighttime and describe seeing strange lights in the sky. However, some are seen in daylight.

One report was from a pilot in an aircraft flying at about 4,500ft over Otmoor, in Oxfordshire, who saw a shiny, black, flying cylinder, 20-30ft long, flying about 200ft higher. According to the documents, the report was forwarded on to the UFO Desk by air traffic controllers.

Recently a series of domed underground bases have been discovered on the banks of the Vilyuy River. These are believed by researchers to be UFO bases used by visiting extraterrestrials. There are said to be vast structures and many rooms beneath these domes. The domes are believed to have been used by UFO travellers for thousands of years. Underwater crop circles are said to act as markers helping aliens locate the bases

Now an expedition of 15 researchers and scientists is going to enter one of these domes to finally uncover its secrets.

The leader of this scientific expedition will be Nikolai Subbotin of Perm City, a UFO researcher. He noted that 'Ancient Tibetan scrolls, says that once these domes were part of a defence system for an ancient ET colony. Sounds like complete fantasy and most unbelievable however, that is what is written in these old Tibetan scrolls'.

NOTE: amateur videos have surfaced that depict at least 2 UFOs in the vicinity of the SU-27 not long before and after the fatal crash. At one point, the SU-27 appears to be attempting an evasive maneuver with flares. As well, it was reported that alien 'greys' were seen in the area of the crash site. Coldest place in the solar system? Right nearby

WASHINGTON – Astronomers have found the coldest spot in our solar system and it may be a little close for comfort. It's on our moon, right nearby.

NASA's new Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter is making the first complete temperature map of the moon. It found that at the moon's south pole, it's colder than far away Pluto. The area is inside craters that are permanently shadowed so they never see sun.

"It's sort of like a faint glow and that's your only source of heat," said David Paige, a University of California, Los Angeles, scientist who is part of the NASA team. "Right here in our own backyard are definitely the coldest things we've seen in real measurements."

Temperatures there were measured at 397 degrees below zero. That's just 62 degrees higher than the lowest temperature possible.

Washington family witnesses multiple UFOs; then spots a 'grey' in backyard

An eastern Washington family claim they have been seeing UFOs in the skies over their town, with unusual helicopter traffic, then a "grey shape" running through their backyard, according to witness testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.

The reporting witness first describes unusual air traffic in a town where they "never have flight traffic." The helicopters seem like they are searching for something.

During the time the helicopters are in the air, the witness claims hearing an odd sound - described as a "very low decibel hum, which made a kind of whum, whum, sound (higher to lower range and back again)."

The family witnessed pulsing lights in the sky, a stench in the air, and a bright object in the sky that moved 25 miles toward them in seconds, stopping just three blocks from their location and hovering just 200 feet off of the ground.

The object was "shaped like an orb with spikes coming out and seemed to have a companion light under it to one side." The family watched the light for about two hours from inside their home. Then at 3 a.m., their daughter looked out a kitchen window and some a grey shape, "about 4fty tall, grey colored from top to bottom, in an approximate human form moving rapidly across the yard from south to north."

Do Demons Lurk in the Halls of Japan’s Buddhist Temples?

Some say the halls of Buddhist temples and museums across Japan are home to many unwanted guests; namely, monster mummies whose preserved remains defy explanation as they stand brazenly on display for all who dare to look.

These mummified demons include incredible monsters, mermaids and even human monks. Some are definitely bogus, but others may well keep you up at night. Take a look but…. don’t forget to check that moving dark spot over your shoulder.

In the Japanese city of Kanazawa in Ishikawa prefecture, the Zengy temple is home to the mummified head of a three-faced demon. As the legend goes, a resident priest discovered the mummy in a temple storage chamber in the early 18th century.

Nobody knows where the demon head came from or how or why it ended up there. The mummified head has two overlapping faces in front, with another one (resembling that of a kappa, which is a water spirit found in Japanese folklore) situated in back. The temple displays the head each year around the spring equinox.

In the town of Usa (Oita prefecture) another demon mummy is on display at the local temple. Once the treasured heirloom of a noble family, this mummy changed owners several times before ending up in the hands of a parishioner in 1925.

When he fell ill (the owner, not the mummy), a legend was born that the mummy was cursed, a belief that was reinforced by the fact that he quickly recovered from his illness after donating the mummy to the temple where it remains to this day on display as a sacred object.

During the 18th and 19th centuries known as the Edo period in Japan, mermaid mummies often appeared at misemono (side show carnivals). A bizarre art form, these mummies were created by fishermen who perfected techniques for stitching the heads and upper bodies of monkeys and other animals onto the bodies of fish.

The very disturbing mummy depicted below was found in a wooden box that contained passages from a Buddhist sutra written in Sanskrit.

Kappa mummies were also constructed by using odd animal parts ranging from monkeys and owls to stingrays. One notable kappa is located in the town of Imari (Saga prefecture) at the Matsuura sake brewery of all places.

As the story goes, the mummy depicted below was discovered hidden in a box by carpenters replacing the roof more than 50 years ago. The owners of the brewery built a small altar and enshrined it as a river god.

A supernatural sky creature known as a tengu is often depicted as part human and part bird. Japan’s ruling samurai families of the Shogunate period maintained collections of these weird mummies, and one is on display at the Hachinohe Museum (Aomori prefecture) in northern Japan.

Topping the list of mummies are the self-mummified monks of northern Japan who willingly tortured themselves in a three-step process to achieve heavenly nirvana. The Japanese government outlawed this practice in the late 19th century, but the image below tells its own horrible tale.

A view of these creatures raises more questions than answers, which always creates a tinge of discomfort.

Who’s to say what’s real and what isn’t?

A PERSONAL NOTE ON THE SWINE FLU

Swine flu

I know that there is a great deal of talk about the Swine Flu going on. I am writing this in hopes it helps relieve some of the fears that I have heard concerning this flu.

I understand this flu is dangerous to those who are weak or ill. I understand that each year people die from flu outbreaks and that this flu is not any different and will cause those who cannot fight strong flu strains off hardships and could even cost lives to be lost.

I understand all the fears and concerns about this flu however I feel it my duty to tell you all that not only did I have the swine flu this summer but so did my spouse and other family members. My doctor told me that it was everywhere this summer.

We were very sick. I became ill on July 27th and stayed sick until Aug 30th. It was a horrible flu that kept me in bed and feeling awful for a long time. I did need antibiotics as did the rest of my family but we survived just as we have other bad flu virus’s in the past.

I think we need to realize that this has become a bit over blown in conversation and fear. I know many are concerned about the flu shot scenario and think that each of us have to make our own judgments concerning if it is best to get or not get this flu shot or any flu shot this year.

I never get flu shots. I did get this flu. It was a nasty flu but I got better and life goes on. I just wanted to share this so the fear of death about this thing might be somewhat handled. If you know not only that I handled this flu but also my entire family did and we all recovered, it may relieve the fear of it somewhat. No one was hospitalized. The only thing needed was a prescription of antibiotics and we completely returned to our normal lives.

For now keep washing those hands and stay away from crowded places especially enclosed malls and places like movie theaters. Use your hand wipes and gels to keep your hands clean and take care of your eating and sleeping habits. Do what you do to stay healthy every year. I am hopeful this flu soon runs it course and dies away from our thoughts.

About a dozen people have contacted the JEP to say they have spotted strange happenings in our skies in recent days.

They contacted the newspaper after reading the account of two elderly women who say that they saw a UFO three times last Friday night at about 11.30 pm. Gladys (92) and Christine (87) Manning said that they saw a red UFO that hovered in the sky, looked something like a doll’s house and travelled at great speed.

And now others say they saw something very similar at about the same time. Maggie Jégat, of Clos de l’Eglise, Grouville, was in a car with two friends when they saw unusual lights in the sky. She said they had driven down the hill into Gorey and had turned the corner by the coach-parking area when they spotted three red lights in the sky.

Also on Friday night an occupant of flats at Les Arches, who declined to be named, said that he saw something strange, like a weather balloon drifting across the sky.

And a St Helier woman sent in a picture of her taken ten days ago which shows strange lights in the sky. It was taken by her friend, former Holby City actor Ian Aspinall, at La Coupe in St Martin. Jackie Collins, a finance worker, said that the picture was not taken to show the lights, but that they just appeared in it.

The witness first saw the object while driving along Arizona Highway 87 near the Gila Indian Reservation at 6:15 p.m., but then continued the observation in Coolidge.

The object was described as "significantly brighter than anything else appearing in the northern sky at this time," and initially a bright "clean" white light.

The object's color changed to an orange/yellow, then to orange, then to red - all over a 25 to 40 minute period.

When the first cloud coverage hid the object, the witness said the object could still be seen - but that it was "slightly less bright."

Then the object "steadily faded in brilliance until it was no longer visible. When the clouds passed and clear sky appeared the object was still not visible. The object did not reappear. No sounds, sensations or movements were associated with the object."

UFO landings: Aliens crossing roads

The history of UFO and extraterrestrial sightings and encounters includes numerous accounts of people in cars seeing what they believe are aliens crossing roads. In many cases such incidents come close to causing road tragedies and on rare occasions they do indeed end in disaster.

MUFON, North America's largest UFO investigation operation, recently received this account from Florida of an event that took place in 1985:

'We had gone to Miami for a meeting and took our children. On the way home, I was driving into the night and everyone in the car was asleep. We were coming to a overpass-and I saw something in the road and I kept trying to figure out what it was and I was driving about 70 miles per hour and I started slowing down because I could not see what it was-then all of a sudden I slammed on the brakes because I saw 4 alien beings- they were moving in a straight line from one side of the highway going to the other side. (There was 2 tall ones and 2 much shorter ones) It looked like they had on a one-piece skintight outfit that even went over their heads. When I slammed on my brakes they all turned their heads toward the car and vanished. They all had oval heads with large eyes. I saw something out of the corner of my eye on the other side of the road and it was gone. Maybe like a flash. My family picked themselves up off the floor and asked what was going on and I told them. They made fun of me and I had tried to dismiss it, but I know what I saw.'

In China too, UFO and extraterrestrial events involving roads and drivers occasionally occur.

In the city of Xuanwei last month a 28-year-old man was killed in an accident that involved no witnesses or other drivers. Shortly after the accident very unusual footprints (above) were found leading from the scene. Rumours were spread on Internet forums that the driver, who died shortly after being admitted to hospital, mentioned to medics that he saw a strange creature or alien crossing the road.

The story spread like wildfire and hundreds of locals turned up daily at the scene of the accident to view the footprints. Oddly, the marks were imprinted permanently on hard cement. Some have suggested the footprints might be that of a dog while others have noted that they are completely irregular.

It is unlikely the truth will ever be known.
